Certifications Aren't Dead in 2026, They're Just Concentrated

Generic certifications have lost weight, but AI-specific credentials increasingly show up as preferred qualifications in real job postings.

Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, and Deloitte have all listed AWS or Google AI certifications under "preferred qualifications" in job postings over the past year — a real shift from a few years ago.

The market narrowed, it didn't disappear

The market didn't stop caring about certifications; it narrowed what it cares about to AI. A PMP or a generic "leadership" badge doesn't pull the same weight anymore, but an AI-related credential signals you can be trusted with these tools unsupervised.

A useful check

One useful check before chasing a certification: search the exact certification name on a job board. If it shows up across real listings, it's a signal worth acting on. If not, no amount of marketing changes the fact that hiring managers aren't screening for it.
